Jet City was founded in 1993 in Seattle, Washington by Jeff Leggett. The name comes from Seattle’s nickname of “Jet City” due to the presence of Boeing in the area. Leggett was working for ad agencies in San Francisco when he took a position with Rainier in Seattle to manage the Henry Weinhardt’s brand they had just acquired. He founded Jet City Brewing as side project, but Rainier showed interest and agreed to contract brew Jet City beers for Leggett. G Heileman Brewing owned Rainier at the time.
